Living in Jakarta

It has been 1.5 months since I worked in Jakarta, Indonesia.

I have a wonderful life in here. I can take care of my children. I can go to office with my wife, and most of the time, I go home with my wife.

I also have a good job. Even I handle not-so-big customer, it’s not a big deal. I’m starting to get familiar with service provider network. Previously, if I need to travel across Asia Pasific, now I need to travel across Indonesia. The good thing is: I like food-hunting.

Other thing is: I decide to postpone my CCIE R/S journey, and switched to CCIE SP. I got some materials from my colleague in office. So later I will share my CCIE R/S material. I also can still utilize my macbook to simmulate CCIE SP, and may be setup lab environment in office if applicable.

Cost living in Jakarta and Singapore is not that different, although my salary decrease a lot :)
In Singapore, my daily expense is:
transport : s$2.5
lunch: s$4
total: s$6.5/day (only from morning to afternoon, dinner is excluded)

In Jakarta, my daily expense is:
transport: Rp 21.000,-
lunch: Rp 15.000,-
total: Rp. 36.000,- (s$ 5.5/day)
ps: both expense are excluding:
- dinner
- other thing (juice, tea, etc: in Singapore, sometime I buy bubble tea/milk tea after lunch, in Jakarta, sometime I buy juice after lunch)

Then, will I work aboard next time? You will see! :) but one for sure, it’s not Singapore! :D

I also miss my ex-colleagues in my previous company. I try to maintain our relationship by email, sms, or phone (of course I got called Hahahah). I also miss my ex-bosses.

At last: Thanks Singapore, for developing me on the last 2 years! and Good bye!

  3. I sometimes consider Singapore for blue collar worker is a no life at all. You can hardly saving your paycheck and therefore there’s less incentive to work there unless you’re no experience worker (good for your resume).

So if you earned 4,000 Sing dollar, it is a good chance for you to spend 3,000 Sing dollar each month, so 1,000 left is only a small peanut that you can find as a small time company in Indonesia.

Jakarta is just as Singapore unless you’re working for some hot shot Multinational Companies that can spend you big $$$ dollar for rupiah expenditures :D

So next time you’re on job search for Sillicon Valley, count me in. :D I’m ready to rock the boat :D

    Gluck brother!
